Xiaomi Enters Electric Vehicle Market with Record-Breaking SU7 Ultra Sedan
Chinese technology powerhouse Xiaomi, renowned worldwide for its smartphones, has officially entered the electric vehicle arena. Their debut model, the Xiaomi SU7, has already impressed automotive enthusiasts with the launch of its high-performance SU7 Ultra variant.

Last October, a prototype of the SU7 stunned the automotive world by completing a lap around Germany’s legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in a blistering 6 minutes and 46.8 seconds. Xiaomi vowed to revisit the famous "Green Hell" with a production-ready SU7 to prove the car’s real-world capabilities.

While the customer-available SU7 Ultra didn’t quite match the prototype’s record, it still achieved an outstanding lap time of 7 minutes and 4.95 seconds. This places Xiaomi’s electric super sedan ahead of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which completed the track in 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds, marking a significant milestone for the company.

Moreover, the SU7 Ultra narrowly edged out the Rimac Nevera—a renowned Croatian electric hypercar that recorded a 7 minute 5.29 second lap—effectively claiming the top spot on the production EV leaderboard. Notably, these times reference the Nürburgring’s full 12.9-mile (20.8 km) layout.

Despite this impressive achievement, the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar still holds the fastest production car lap record with a 6 minute 29 second time, while the all-time lap record belongs to the track-only Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, which completed the course in a staggering 5 minutes 19.55 seconds. Given these benchmarks, it remains unlikely any street-legal vehicle will eclipse these times anytime soon.

Onboard video footage released by Xiaomi revealed the SU7 Ultra hitting a verified top speed of 215 mph (346 km/h), making it the fastest production sedan globally—surpassing previous record-holders like the Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima, Bentley Flying Spur W-12, and the Lucid Air Sapphire.

Xiaomi claims the SU7 Ultra can reach speeds exceeding 217 mph (350 km/h) on the right stretch of road. It’s worth mentioning that the Nürburgring SU7 Ultra tested was equipped with the optional track package available to buyers, ensuring its status as a genuine production model.

Powering this impressive sedan is a tri-motor electric setup producing a combined 1,527 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 1.98 seconds. Measuring 201.3 inches in length and weighing 5,203 pounds (2,360 kilograms), the SU7 Ultra is larger and heavier than the Porsche Taycan.

The vehicle officially went on sale in China in late February, starting at a competitive price of 529,900 yuan (approximately $74,000), marking Xiaomi’s serious commitment to the electric vehicle market and performance EV segment.
